About the Festival
The UTA Jazz Festival is a two-day jazz festival in which schools from all over Texas, and even schools from out of state, participate in a fun day of competition, performances, and jazz education. Here at the UTA, our students receive the full attention of our professors, allowing them to get the up close and personal education that is often lost at larger institutions. Our jazz festival reflects just that; a personal education with distinguished jazz educators. Throughout the day, clinics held by our guest artist will give participants a chance to ask questions and interact with a world class musician. Student jam sessions are also held throughout the day by our very own UTA jazz students; a great educational opportunity! Got some questions about UTA? Ask one of our many jazz and music students working at the festival!
At the end of the day, our main goal is jazz education. Our stellar adjudicators are very experienced in the professional jazz scene, and they are very experienced jazz educators. In fact, most of our adjudicators are a part of our UTA jazz faculty. The 30 minute feedback sessions after every performance allows the adjudicators to give the participants constructive criticism on how to improve as a band.
Each festival day comes to a close with an awards ceremony that features the previous year's winner(s), and one of our top two UTA jazz bands with our guest artist (UTA Jazz Ensemble on the first night, UTA Jazz Orchestra on the second). A show definitely worth seeing! The awards will then proceed after the performances.
